Setting, Off for the Weekend. #amazingfoodinSaugatuck

The major reason we sold or Cape Dory was to spend more time on board and to do some weekend trips. To this end, the Mirage has really been a great boat for our family. This last weekend we took off from our house Friday night and spent the weekend aboard.

Upon arrival, we started with hoisting a few flags.

Friday night we hung out at Tower Marine. Myles literally with the hanging spent a good part of the evening in the hammock.

After months of cooking at home, we decided this would be a carry-out weekend. We decided to go with Blue Star Cafe for dinner. If you are in Saugatuck you should check this place out.  They have great food and really do a wonderful job giving back to the community.

Saturday Morning we ran home and grabbed our dingy. Then stopped off at Penny Royal Cafe for Breakfast. The weather was not looking promising so we stayed in Lake Kalamazoo playing with the dingy and went for a swim at the pool. Saugatuck's Harbor is super boater friendly with several places to tie up your dingy or small boat. We took the dingy across the lake and went into town for lunch at Wally's

Late in the afternoon, the weather had not really changed we had several sun sprinkles and decided it was not going to improve or worsen so we headed out to the big lake for the rest of the day.

With the dingy in tow, we had a slow but steady sail tossing snacks back to the dingy crew every so often added to the day's adventure.

Once we returned from the big lake we threw our anchor over for the night. The anchorage had a few other boats in it but it was not to busy. The music from the town reaches over the lake and I went to grab a pizza from Marro's.  At the dingy dock, I ran into a few local friends on the way to do the same. Pizza box in had they anchored behind us for a while. Before dusk, they headed back to their dock. We spent the evening playing card on the deck but the evening was cut short by rain. About 12:30PM someone onshore was shouting for Mr. Sailboat to wake up.  We rolled out of bed to see that they were talking to the other sailboat in the anchorage.  The other sailor had drug their anchor and drifted across the lake. The shoreline shouts had woken them as well and they were pulling anchor to reset.

By morning it was pretty wet and it was still raining on and off. We decided to head for our dock. After breakfast, and a few showers we beached the dingy ashore and pulled the drain plug to release the rainwater. Then we cleaned the boat up for the boat parade after lunch.  Our friends had planned a local get together just for some fun.   Lucy's was our choice for lunch we ran in had a quick bite and then came back fo finish prepping the boat.

Mid-afternoon a flotilla of boats gathered in lake Kalamazoo and headed down the river.  My favorite was the look on the face of the conservation officer when we passed by with our dolphin strapped to the bow.

It turned out to be a great day we all gathered at the cove for some live music and social distance interaction.

Check out this great video of music from the cove by Nate Holley

Sunday we headed home but Monday morning this guy took me for a ride around the harbor before we packed up the dingy.
